CONNECTION WITH ENGLISH ARTISANS
Our Tree Jumper artists are bringing so much joy to the Gallery team as they send in their stories for their Yarnbombed Tree labels. A strong sense of nostalgia, community pride and sweet surprises are recurring themes. The Lincolnshire Guild of Spinners Weavers and Dyers have been taking part in Warwick Art Gallery’s Yarn Bombed Tree exhibition since 2005. They first heard about it after the Scarf Exchange in 1998, when one of their members was paired with someone in Warwick. Through this connection they heard about the Jumpers & Jazz in July festival. As they are spinners and weavers they like to send something that is hand spun, woven, felted, and needle felted. Now known as the Brothertoft Spinners, their coordinator Myra Scott, posts their artwork to the Gallery each year. However, in 2019, Myra and her husband traveled to Warwick to deliver their entry in person and enjoy the hospitality of the Warwick community, who treated them like celebrities.
Warwick Art Gallery’s Yarn Bombed Tree exhibition is on display from 16th to 26th July.
There will be 68 artworks installed ready for the Jumpers and Jazz exhibition in July to start on the 16th of July. The winners of this year’s competition will be announced at midday on the 18th of July at the Warwick Art Gallery Artisan Market.
