The Royal Australian Navy Band Queensland is based at HMAS Moreton in Bulimba, Brisbane, Queensland. The band consists of 25 part-time Musicians and two full-time Musicians under the direction of Bandmaster Chief Petty Officer Musician Simon Potter.
The Royal Australian Navy Band Queensland provide Ceremonial support to HMAS Moreton and to Navy throughout the Sunshine State. Ceremonial support often takes the form of a military marching band but can also take the form of vocal and bugle to support Anthem and Last Post Ceremonies.
The band are most well-known throughout the State for entertaining audiences with their contemporary 22 piece big band. Other capabilities include an energetic 10 piece cover band, a high quality jazz ensemble and a vibrant brass quintet.
The RAN Band Queensland proudly supports the Defence Community Organisation and QLD’s not-for-profit sector, performing regularly at charity fundraising events such as the Legacy Defence Charity Ball, as well as a broad selection of community events. Throughout the year the band can be seen within Queensland supporting events such as the Australia Day Citizenship Ceremony, Anzac Day dawn services and parades, as well as a variety of Defence and public memorial services.
The Reserve Musicians that form the Royal Australian Navy Band Queensland come from a diverse range of full-time occupations including scientists, public servants, medical professionals, teachers, full time students and professional musicians.
Members of RAN Band Queensland regularly support the Permanent Navy Force of the RAN Band. This has seen QLD musicians working both domestically and on international deployments in the Middle East, Gallipoli, South Pacific and New Zealand.
